The work attempts to visualize the “negative space” within our auditory landscape—the subtle textures hidden within the folds of silence.

At the core of the concept lies a particular perspective on silence: rather than treating it simply as the “absence of sound,” the work approaches silence as an accumulation of unintentional resonances that fill the environment.

The subtle sounds collected from different locations are not treated merely as recordings, but as rich data to be decoded. Inspired by the minimalism of early computer art and the geometric elegance of architectural drawings, the work bridges the unpredictable fluctuations of the natural world and the strict logic of software.

The central process of the piece is the translation of sound into form. A custom-designed system analyzes acoustic data and converts variations in frequency and amplitude into complex geometric trajectories. These paths appear as physical traces through the logic of a drawing machine.

The regular rhythm of the plotter and the marks left by friction become a record of careful observation directed toward the intangible nature of sound. Within the vast canvas of the dome, these movements are inscribed as living traces. Calculated algorithms encounter physical resistance; sound gradually takes form, and silence becomes something visible.

FUTURE VISION LAB 2026

Since its launch in 2020, C-LAB Future Vision Lab has continuously developed FUTURE VISION LAB, an experimental exhibition and performance project dedicated to constructing a dome-based digital architectural environment, with the aim of exploring the visual limits of technological media. In terms of size, it is built as the only large-scale movable DOME with a diameter of 15 meters. The audio-visual hardware and software have undergone several iterations, overcoming the image warping, calibration, mapping, play control, and video pre-production. The immersive projection system achieves a total resolution of up to 8K × 8K. Internally, a double-layer structure conceals the equipment, and a custom-designed acoustically transparent projection membrane has been developed. A refined sound field has been established, featuring a 25.4-channel immersive surround sound system. Moving forward, Future Vision Lab will continue to advance dome-based immersive environments in alignment with international standards, showcasing Taiwan’s creative energy and offering audiences a superior immersive sensory experience.

FUTURE VISION LAB 2026 official website

FUTURE VISION LAB 2026 will take place from April 18 to June 7, 2026, over eight consecutive weekends.
